Tape Machines and Tapes

With both the highest quality tape machines ever made and a range of premium tape to choose from we can provide each client with the sought after genuine tape saturation and analog warmth that cannot be properly reproduced by tape emulator plugins.

The purpose of the tape machines at Intonation is to provide lossless analog quality ...  digital audio, while improving, is limited by its sampling rates and bit depths, and still cannot compete with high-end analogue audio as the perfect medium for sound reproduction.

Endless Audio’s CLASP system, coupled with our Studer tape machines, allows us to preserve the quality of analog while simultaneously enabling editing via ProTools, Nuendo and Logic.

Endless Analogue Clasp 24s (x2)

CLASP is a unique system for seamlessly integrating tape machines with digital audio workstations, meaning you can edit and fine-tune audio with modern digital tools while preserving the quality of the analog realm.

While CLASP is usually used in recording studios, we are using this system slightly differently.  At Intonation we can work with pre-recorded analog audio, preserving the quality of your recordings, or we can enhance your digital recordings by transfer to tape.

Each desk at Intonation has its own CLASP system so we can protect your audio in its analogue form while transferring between them.

For more on how the CLASP system works please visit the Endless Analog website, click here.

Outboard

The mastering phase is the last process before a project is released to the public, and the final opportunity to improve the quality of the sound. Nowadays, digital plugins are the norm, but audio quality can be greatly improved by using the original hardware upon which most plugins are based.

The effect that high-end electrical circuitry has on a signal still cannot, to this day, be properly replicated 'in the box'.

Consequently Intonation has chosen to use only the best analog equipment, to give our clients' audio the focus it deserves.

CABLING

Cabling is often overlooked as playing a major role in the quality of signal flow. Here at Intonation we understand cabling to be as important as any other aspect of the studio: we regard it as the arteries of the entire system.

For this reason throughout Intonation all the cabling is the best available: VOVOX®’s Sonorus.  We chose VOVOX®’s Sonorus because of the pristine signal transmission associated with this cabling, the cutting edge solid core conductors inside the cables and the high quality of the materials they are made of.  Intonation holds the Vovox Purum award: wired strictly with Vovox.

Software

We generally like to steer away from using plugins and emulations of physical hardware, as we have a large range of outboard gear to work with.

However, we understand that a client might want a specific type of sound generated from a plugin for a special effect.  Because of this we have a large library of software plugins available to suit clients’ preferences.

We also offer a range of platforms to work from.  While Pro Tools is the industry standard we understand that clients might be using another platform.

Monitors

Monitoring in any mastering studio is particularly important. We need to have an accurate representation of a finished project and it is for this reason that we have chosen the monitors with care and calibrated them precisely.

Having a flat, full-band frequency response, accurate phase response and controlled dynamics are essential to providing our clients with the specific sound they need for their projects.

Having accurate and rich playback devices is critical when validating a project to see if it translates across all mediums.

Headphones are essential for critical listening and for checking issues which might not be as noticeable through monitors.  They eliminate issues arising from the spatial interaction in the studio.
