MTT – digital reborn as analog

Mastered through tape (MTT) is our premium service for clients who want to experience their digital recordings as pure analog. 

It is a special service only available from Intonation. 

MTT involves taking each individual digital stem in a recording and printing it onto a Studer A827 gold edition multi track recorder in the process described below.   The end product is analog on tape for direct transfer to vinyl, with digital files in any formats requested.  The results are outstanding, giving a recording which sounds as though it was recorded to tape in the first place. 

It can be a very cost-effective process, saving the countless takes in the studio often needed when recording to tape.  It also gives you the possibility of analog versions of already recorded favourites.

Due to our system and unique algorithms, we are not limited to the 24 tracks available on the Studer.  This means there is no session too big or too small for this service.

MTT - how it works

• We use a stereo print of your session as our reference guide to match the levels exactly as they were, to ensure we preserve what the client, mix engineer and producer have envisioned. 
• We take the audio stem files from the multi-track and separate the various elements, putting the stem files and the effects into separate templates.
• We re-run the stem files through the CLASP system onto tape, resulting in analog stem files.
• We replace plugins with quality hardware equipment upon request, using the original mix as a reference.
• We re-lay these tracks onto tape reels, using the CLASP system to manipulate the analog recording by digital means.
• We edit and master from there.
  

Intonation developed this process to use the CLASP technology, and to extend its use to already-recorded tracks without any latency, using our specially developed software.  

We use the Weiss Saracon file converter for un-paralleled file conversion quality.
